When we first started breeding alpacas in 2003 the use of the fiber was almost an afterthought. Everyone talked about how wonderful the fiber was but the options were minimal. The only choice was mini-mills and it was a shot in the dark what quality you were going to get and how long it was going to take. Since then we have been introduced to the concept of fiber sorting so that by the end of shearing day we are done with the bulk of our fiber questions for the year. There are many more local mills who know what they are doing with alpaca fiber and the number of local fiber artists has grown as has our own knowledge on spinning and weaving. So please send us photos or videos along with a description of your favorite alpaca project. We are looking for unique applications.
